Kia ora — page 05 · common questions

A long, friendly list of questions and quiet answers.

Twenty-something common questions, sorted by tab. If yours isn't here, send us a note from the contact page — we'll add it to the list (with thanks).

Is the recipe notebook free to read?

Yes. Every recipe and journal entry on this site is free to read, save and cook from at home. We do not run third-party advertising, and we will not introduce a paywall in the foreseeable future. The kitchen is supported by our small Saturday workshops and a printed seasonal booklet.

How often are new recipes added?

One recipe per week, sent on Sunday morning by email and posted to the site at the same time. Occasionally a small extra note appears mid-week during a busy harvest. The full archive is browsable from the home page.

Can I share a recipe on my own blog or in print?

You're welcome to quote a short paragraph (about 50 words) with a clear credit and a link back to the original page. Republishing a recipe in full requires written permission first — please write to us so we can say yes properly.

I noticed a small mistake. How do I let you know?

Thank you — we depend on reader corrections. Use the contact form or send an email with the page URL and a short note. We aim to update the page within seven days and credit you (initials only) at the bottom unless you'd prefer not to be named.

Why are some ingredients in te reo Māori?

We live in Aotearoa, and the local names for some ingredients carry their place with them. Whenever we use a te reo word for the first time on a page, we always include the English meaning beside it.

Are nutritional values published with each recipe?

No. We are a home cooking notebook, not a clinical service, and we don't provide nutritional or dietary advice. If you have specific dietary requirements, please consult an appropriately qualified professional before relying on a recipe.

How do I book a Saturday workshop?

Use the contact form with the date, the number of chairs, and any dietary swaps. We confirm by email within two working days and follow up with a secure payment link from a New Zealand-registered processor. All prices include 15% GST.

What does a workshop cost and what's included?

Standard adult workshops are NZ$95 per chair (GST inclusive). Children's sessions are NZ$45 per child-and-adult pair. The fee covers all ingredients, the recipe handout, and a shared lunch. There are no surprise extras at the door.

What's the cancellation and refund policy?

Full refund up to 14 days before the workshop. 50% refund (or free transfer) between 7 and 14 days before. Within 7 days, transfers are still welcome but refunds are not given. Your statutory rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 are not affected. The full policy lives on the terms of use page.

Can you accommodate dietary requirements?

We offer gluten-free flour, dairy-free and vegetarian options for most sessions, and we'll happily talk through nut and shellfish allergies before booking. Our kitchen is not a dedicated allergen-free environment, so we cannot eliminate cross-contact risk.

Is the venue accessible?

The Diamond Harbour Wharf Hall has step-free entry, an accessible bathroom, and an adjustable-height bench station. The full picture is on our accessibility page. Get in touch in advance and we'll set up specifically for you.

Do you offer workshops outside Diamond Harbour?

Once or twice a year we travel — usually to Akaroa, Christchurch, or a host venue around Te Waipounamu. Pop your name on our travel-list by writing to us, and we'll let you know when a date opens nearby.

How do I subscribe to the Sunday letter?

Drop your email into the form at the bottom of any page and confirm your address from the welcome email. We use double opt-in so the kitchen never sends letters to anyone who didn't actively ask for them, in line with the Unsolicited Electronic Messages Act 2007.

How often will you write to me?

Once a week, on Sunday morning, around 8am NZST. Two or three times a year we send a short additional note about the printed booklet or a workshop. That's it.

How do I unsubscribe?

Every Sunday letter has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom. You can also write to us directly and we'll remove your address within seven days. We never rent or sell email lists, ever.

Do you advertise products in the letter?

No. The letter has no third-party advertising and no affiliate links. If we ever recommend a tool or a book, we have actually used it ourselves and we say so plainly.

What data does the site collect about me?

The minimum amount we need to do our work — anything you give us in a form, plus short server logs and (with your consent) anonymous reading metrics. The full picture is in our privacy policy.

Where is my data stored?

Our hosting and email run on New Zealand-based providers. The newsletter platform is in the European Union under the EU GDPR. The workshop payment processor is in Australia under comparable privacy law. Any cross-border transfer is covered by a written data-processing agreement.

How do I ask for a copy of my data, or have it deleted?

Write to infocenter@phrexxontholmare.world. We respond to data-subject requests within 20 working days, in line with the Privacy Act 2020. If you'd like to complain about how we handled your information, you may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Can I change my cookie preferences later?

Yes — at any time. Use the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer of any page to reopen the settings panel.

Is the site usable with a screen reader?

It is built for that. We target WCAG 2.1 AA, use semantic HTML, label all images, and follow a logical heading structure. Read more on the accessibility page.

Can I read a recipe without animations?

If your operating system has "reduced motion" turned on, the site automatically falls back to a still version of every animated element. No flashing, no marquee, no auto-rotating carousel.

What if a page is hard for me to use?

Tell us. We will gladly send the same content as a plain-text email, a large-print PDF, or read it to you over the phone. There's a dedicated section for that on the accessibility page.

Couldn't find your question?

Write us a small note and we'll add it.
